Understanding Plant Innate Immunity
Sohn lab studies microbial pathogenesis and plant innate immunity. In particular, we are interested in better understanding the mechanisms by which intracellular NLR immune receptors recognize pathogen-secreted effector proteins and activate immune responses in plants.
Our research topics include but are not limited to
Molecular mechanisms by which NLR proteins recognize pathogen effectors and activate immunity in Arabidopsis and Solanaceae plants
Effector functions during bacterial and fungal pathogenesis
Identification of NLRs carrying novel effector recognition specificities for molecular crop breeding.
