Sohn lab studies microbial pathogenesis and plant innate immunity. In particular, we are interested in better understanding the mechanisms by which intracellular NLR immune receptors recognize pathogen-secreted effector proteins and activate immune responses in plants.

Our research topics include but are not limited to

  • Molecular mechanisms by which NLR proteins recognize pathogen effectors and activate immunity in Arabidopsis and Solanaceae plants

  • Effector functions during bacterial and fungal pathogenesis

  • Identification of NLRs carrying novel effector recognition specificities for molecular crop breeding.
